Driving lesson 1
My first lesson driving- was in Hollyhill in Cork. Good for manoeuvres but a little restricted in space. First instinct was panic, not expecting the initial jolt from moving clutch and accelerator.
A tip- wear shoes that are fitting well so you can feel the pressure under your feet.
Steering and turns in first gear were fine, trying to get a feel for finding the bite- when to ease off the clutch in first gear and finding the right acceleration.
Tried to go into second gear, one thing to note- it's behind the first gear!!
Lesson 2- everyone has their bad days!!
Firstly, I suggested going to an industrial estate in Togher. It was on a slight slope, dipped road and roundabout. The roundabout were fine but then an arctic truck was learning to drive as well...so then we movedup the road to a quieter spot... Long stretch, was in first, chugging along, manoeuvring through the various entrances passing grassy verges etc, was fine in that sense., went into second gear, managed to reverse on first attempt.. Reverse is the exact same principle of gears as being in first.. Only going into r gear. Getting used to mirrors etc, watching out for anything.
Then went into first then second, was turning left in front of a unit.. Mother said brake, I was pressing it, wore runners, wasn't pressing it hard enough.. Oh FYI, brake using clutch down fully and press on brake.mother roars BRAKE!!! Hurtles forward not wearing her seatbelt, whacking her head into rear view mirror..
Alive but bruised!! (Mentally and physically)
*Change gears- use clutch. In second gear, clutch not held as long as when in first gear.
